Dear Fellow KFFC Members,
I regret to inform you that a long-standing member and friend of the KFFC, Mr John (JM) Kariuki, died last Thursday. Many members will remember Mr Kariuki with affection and gratitude for the tireless work he did supporting the Club, especially at the Northern camp.
A requiem mass will be held at Mater Hospital Chapel tomorrow (Thursday 20 October) at 12 noon. The funeral will take place at Muthangari Catholic Church, Muthangari, Njumbi Division, at 10.30am on Friday 21st October, and interment thereafter at his home next to the church.
The Committee has approved a donation to the family and we are working on a plan to commemorate John in a major community project in the valleys in 2017. More news on this later. Personal messages may be sent to the family through his son, Steve Steve.maina@yahoo.com

Musa Ibrahim wrote: ‘I knew JM Kariuki for the past 11 years and from my the earlier years he and Larry Sutcliffe would share stories of the early Nairobi stock exchange where Larry ran a brokerage firm and JM was registrar and ran BARS (Barclays Advisory Register Services). Their stories would always awe me as a floor trader at the exchange. JM was an honest business man, a gentleman and true son of Muranga and Kangema and one of the top businessmen of our era. Richard Harney wrote: ‘I first met John Kariuki in about 1999 when he was introduced to the committee by Edwin Bristow. John was then retiring from Barclays where he had worked in their custody business for many years. John agreed to join the committee for a while but his main contribution was in supporting the Club at the Northern – his home was at the top of the hill near the water tower – Kiria’ni . He helped with many local issues and eagerly supplied both camps with gas and other materials for many years. He remained a loyal supporter of the Club and was well respected in the area. He will be missed as he was always ready to provide help and advice on community and employee issues’.
Chris Harrison wrote: ‘ John was for many years our eyes and ears (and hands) in the valleys. He looked after our interests diligently, and we benefitted from association with this respected local figure. Always a pleasure to spend time with, John was forthright and good humoured. Those of us who knew him hold a happy image of him in our mind’s eye. I’m pleased that I had the opportunity to write to him, and indeed speak with him when he fell ill recently. I’m only sorry that was to be our last conversation.’
